Day 1
We will leave early from Jinja and drive eastward on the main Kenya highway to the border town of Busia. We clear customs and immigration and then proceed to the town of Kisumu, right on the edge of Lake Victoria. Tonight we will camp for the night close to a pod of hippos that may come and graze around your tent.

Day 2
Continuing our drive around Africa’s largest lake, Victoria, we push on into Tanzania before crossing the famous Mara River and then camping the night in the town of Musoma.

Day 3
After a breakfast overlooking the lake, we stock up with all the food and provisions we will need for the next few days, then continue towards Serengeti National Park. We enter the national park at the Ndabaka Gate before proceeding through the area called The Western Corridor. Here we start to get sightings of all the big game that makes this park the most famous of all the African national parks. After the game drive, we camp for the night in the Seronera area and settle down to sleep with the noises of Africa all around our tents.

Day 4
You have the option of taking a balloon trip over the savannah lands followed by a champagne breakfast. Alternatively, we take a game drive around the central areas of the park. Following this, we return to the campsite to pack up before game driving out of the park via the Naabi Hill Gate. We then head straight into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. On the drive we will get some awesome views of the crater itself before camping on the edge.

Day 5
Again we arise at first light to be met by fantastic views of the crater with the summit of Kilimanjaro in the background. After breakfast we alight into customized 4x4 safari vehicles for possibly the best day’s game viewing on the continent. All of the “big 5” are present in the crater, in addition to Thompson’s gazelle, hyena, zebra, flamingos and many more. At the end of the day, our safari vehicles will drop us off at the town of Karatu just outside the national park. We camp the night there and try to soak in all the wondrous sights we have seen over the last few days.

Day 6
Today we descend down the edge of the crater, getting a bird’s eye view of Lake Manyara on the way. We stop for lunch at the Snake Park, where you can view many of Africa’s most dangerous and deadly reptiles. A quick stop in the safari town of Arusha and we will then make our way into the shadow of Mt Kilimanjaro, where we will spend the night on the slopes of the mountain.

Day 7
We will proceed down the edge of the Great Rift Valley and move below the jagged escarpment, as we make our way toward the coast and Dar Es Salaam. Known as the ‘haven of peace’, we will spend the night right on the beach, in tropical warmth and salty air.

Day 8
The delicious spice island of Zanzibar is a three-hour ferry ride away. As we enter the coral seas, the smell of cloves and rich seafood will herald our welcome to Stone Town. The tiny streets hide a myriad of goods, from spices, to carvings, to jewellery, and it will entice you to shop until you drop. Perhaps you would like to sample the famous night markets, where a plateful of seafood, freshly cooked and washed down by a glass of sugar juice will round off your day.

Day 9 - 11
There are many optional activities on Zanzibar, from swimming with dolphins to walking with red colobus monkeys, visiting the old slave markets or simply heading northward to an idyllic beach at Ngunwi. Watching dhows cruise past in the sunset as you drink a cocktail from a fresh coconut will make you realize you are truly in paradise.

Day 12
Today we will transfer back to Dar Es Salaam by ferry.

Day 13
We proceed up the edge of the Great Rift Valley again and then climb it to Lushoto, a high look out point where we will camp on the edge of a massive drop and get a magnificent view. Jungle walks and village life in the clouds is yours to explore.

Day 14
Today we drive to Kenya’s border town of Namanga, keeping an eye out for giraffe on the road. We camp the night in the wild with Maasai warriors to keep us company and to keep any lions away.

Day 15 - 16
We will drive into Kenya’s capital city of Nairobi today, simply to do some souvenir shopping in this busy cosmopolitan city. Later in the day, we will pay a visit to an elephant orphanage and make a stop at a giraffe sanctuary where we can hand-feed giraffes.

Day 17
Travelling a short distance to the Fever Thorn tree-ringed Lake Naivasha will allow us to see black and white Colobus monkeys barking in the trees. A short walk up the road will take you to afternoon tea at Elsamere, the museum home of Joy Adamson of Bornfree fame.

Day 18
We will spend another day at Lake Naivasha, where you might like to take an optional visit to Crescent Island or a boat out onto the lake. You can also rent bicycles and ride through Hells Gate National Park to view wild game and thermal activity or simply relax and soak up the atmosphere by the lake.

Day 19
Today we will move into Lake Nakuru National Park, famed for flamingos and rhinos among  a myriad of other game. We will camp wild in the park beside a flowing waterfall, where buffalo often come to drink.

Day 20
After an early morning game drive, we will leave the park and travel to the western highland town of Eldoret. Pine trees, babbling brooks, a plethora of birdlife, and lush grasslands abound.

Day 21
We cross back into Uganda, the Pearl of Africa, loosely following the northern end of Lake Victoria, before arriving back at Jinja or Kampala, marking the end of your East African Odyssey safari.
