BenefacTours (Volunteer while Adventuring) Safaris East Africa

Volunteering at the orphanage was an amazing, rewarding experience and I would do it again in a heartbeat. The sisters also helped to make the experience a special one; they were so kind to me and they went out of their way to make me feel at home. I will never forget my experience.  I really can't thank you enough for all your patience, support and help regarding my visit to Uganda. It was such a comfort knowing that if I had an issue I could email or call you and receive a speedy response. You really go above and beyond!

About The Owner Cynthia Holmes

Cynthia

The owner of BenefacTours Inc., Cynthia Holmes, got bitten by the travel bug at age 19, when she set off for a 3 month trip to Europe along with 3 girlfriends, a backpack and a thumb.  Her thirst for travel has continued to include six continents.  Virtually all of her travel experiences, excepting African safaris, have been self-supported.  Getting to know locals has been a real joy in her life, and her excursions in Africa unforgettable.

Numerous adventures in Africa have afforded Cynthia the opportunity to create relationships with several tour companies, guides, and locals.  Since a young age, she felt a kinship with the continent of Africa.  It was a dream come true to be able to take a leave from work and spend 15 months on one trip.  That particular excursion introduced her to a 5 month volunteer stretch in Uganda.  The friendships she established there, with the locals, have changed her life and she knows that this is a very special continent.

Dirk Leysen

Dirk

A long time world traveller, Dirk fell in love with Uganda while on safari in 2003.  He made the decision to come back to volunteer, and has been there ever since.  Hailing from Belgium, Dirk has spent his life exploring the globe, and has now made a home along side the beautiful Nile River.

 Mariela Ramos

Mariela, a seasoned traveller, began working for BenefacTours in 2007. Cynthia's fascination with Africa was infectious and now Mariela feels a special bond with this marvelous continent. She has acquired a passion for Africa, it's people, it's food and it's culture, right down to drumming and dancing.

  Elizabeth Holmes

Elizabeth's first taste of travel was as a baby, camping in Canada's wilderness.  Her first whirlwind trip through Europe, 20 years ago, led to a 3 month backpacking trip to Australia and New Zealand. That was the beginning of a passion for embracing new cultures for Liz. She relishes the history, culture, food, music, people and even the language wherever she goes.

Sheila McCormick

Sheila McCormick

Sheila’s 3 month volunteer job in Uganda in 2004, teaching deaf children at a primary school, quickly turned into a passion for her.  Little did she know that less than 2 years later she would raise enough funds to build a dorm for 26 deaf children at that same school.  The kids are now able to get an education and communicate with their families and each other.  Sheila is often in Uganda and available to chaperone young volunteers.
