Safari Itinerary
Day 1 Murchison Falls National Park
Begin the panoramic drive north-west through the famous Luwero Triangle and Masindi Town, with a stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary on route to Murchison Falls National Park. We arrive in time for a picnic lunch at the top of the falls, where you get to experience the awesome site of the whole river getting compressed through a 6 metre gap in the rocks before dropping 44 metres with a thunderous roar. Get ready to take some great photographs. Enjoy the sunset as we then make our way to our lodgings.
Day 2 Murchison Falls National Park
We rise with the sun for our early game drive. Here we hope to find lions, leopard, elephants, buffalo, giraffe, hartebeest, waterbuck, oribi, bushbuck, Bohor reedbuck, hyena and many more of Africa’s big game. After lunch, we take a boat safari upstream to the base of the falls, stopping just tens of metres from the "Devil's Cauldron". En-route, marvel at the toothsome hippos, crocodiles and possibly elephant, waterbuck and Uganda Kob. This is also home to many bird species like Goliath heron, Egyptian goose, pelican bee-eater, kingfisher, hornbill, cormorant and the rare shoebill stork.
Day 3 Fort Portal
This morning we set off for the long drive south through verdant countryside, past traditional homesteads and farms, towards the crater lake region of Fort Portal, near Kibale Forest. The scenery is breathtaking, enabling plenty of photo opportunities. Fort-Portal rests in the shadow of the fabled “Mountains of the Moon”. Approximate drive time 7 hours.
Day 4 Queen Elizabeth National Park
After breakfast we head off for a guided trek through Kibale Forest in search of man’s closest relative, the chimpanzee. The sounds of the chimps carry through the forest very clearly, so approaching and watching these creatures in their natural habitat is a fantastic wildlife viewing experience. The forest is also home to several other species of primates including black and white colobus, red colobus, olive baboon, red-tailed monkey, blue monkey, L'Hoest's monkeys as well as an incredible array of birdlife. After lunch, we proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park following the mystical Rwenzori Mountain Range with game drive en route to view lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo, hyena and a variety of antelope species.
Day 5 Queen Elizabeth National Park
We start the day with an early morning game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park. In the afternoon, we take the boat launch on the Kazinga Channel where hippos, crocodiles, elephants and buffalo will be in great abundance either at the waters edge, or along side your boat! This trip passes through possibly the highest concentration of hippos and offers an excellent platform for photography, bird watching and game viewing. The prolific bird life is colourful and stupendous with well over 550 resident species.
Day 6 Lake Mburo
Today you will take your chance tracking chimps again, this time in Kyambura Gorge, before proceeding to Lake Mburo. Zebra, buffalo, Ugandan Kob and plenty of other species abound in this beautiful park, where you either stay in the stunning lodge built atop a kopje with incredible views across the park, or in the National Park bandas, down by the lake - where hippos usually come and graze close by.
