Marvel at the abundance of wildlife as you explore from your boat, walking and classic game drives on this Tanzanian safari.
Itinerary
Day 1
Depart from Dar es Salaam city centre by 4x4 safari vehicle or flight to the Selous Game Reserve. The vast majority of Tanzania’s elephant herds live in one remote stretch of safari wilderness – the Selous Game Reserve. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch at the Rufiji River Camp. Embark on an afternoon game drive in the reserve, and then return to the camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 2
Enjoy a full day of game viewing in the reserve. Participate in some classic style game drives, exploring the bush in open 4 x 4 vehicles. Waterbuck, southern reed buck and bushbuck are common in the Selous. Rare sable antelope, lion and greater kudu also frequent this area. Selous has the world’s largest number of big game, more than 120,000 elephants, 160,000 buffaloes and about 2,000 rhinoceros. In addition, the Selous contains Africa’s greatest concentration of hippopotamus, crocodiles and wild dogs. Meals and overnight at Rufiji River Camp.
Day 3
After breakfast, accompany an armed ranger on a walking safari in the reserve. The sights, sounds and smells while creeping up to animals to catch a shot of them is a thrilling experience. A boat safari will take you to explore different channels and lakes of the Rufiji River System, surrounded by hippos and crocodiles. A large variety of herons, storks, ducks, stilts, and other water birds may be seen, as well as land mammals such as giraffe and elephants. Meals and overnight at Rufiji River Camp.
